Rachel Reeves, the new UK Chnacellor said she would 'smash glass celings and urinals' but her aims have been dashed. She hoped to remove the antique urinal in the Chancellor's private bathroom in Downing Street but it is protected by listed building consent. The historic black and white tiled urinal was used by Sir Winston Churchill and dates back to 1922. Churchill became Chancellor in 1924, under Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin.

The removal and even the cost of covering it up would be expensive with estimates of around £8000. Instead it has been recommended by the Treasury to cover it with a pot plant. Perhaps it could even be considered art? A urinal, called 'Fountain' was once displayed in an exhibtion by artist Marcel Duchamp, in 1917.

Rachel Reeves is the first woman Chancellor and is 'committed to fiscal discipline' and has stated 'it is a big responsibility to ensure the economy works better for women'.
