Fulbeck Woods, based near Grantham, is where Gethyn Tree spent much of last year building the reclaimed wood furniture, fittings and second hand timber cladding for the newly-opened Tummy Tucker pub, in Fulham. As a small business it was good to have a well paid London refit which resulted in many months of full order books, but the many two hour treks down the motorway and across London, and the repetition of fairly mundane tasks which followed the creative design process left Gethyn having a rethink.
He moved more into furniture - tables were a speciality with industrial bases and reclaimed pew tops - which he bought to the Salvo Zone at Newark in August. But this still resulted in needing large orders to keep the workshop going, and this still meant that his creativity would be stifled.
"I'm having a change of working style and cutting down on overheads for a while so I've not got my apprentice and I want to start taking on commissions and freeing up time to produce maybe six or seven really cool pieces every year, I think producing in quantity isn't really for me, the repetition bores me!" he told us.
We look forward to seeing what he comes up with.
