This summer Saxon Durrant from Metro Retro is celebrating twenty years in the business and his making a appearance on Quest TV's Salvage Hunters. With a new upgraded website, he is also getting out and about with a stand at the Midcentury East Show on Sunday in Hackney, London and at Salvo Fair in Henley-on-Thames at the end of June.
In a recent episode Salvage Hunters visited Saxon from Metro Retro Ltd in his old apple store premises. As they entered the warehouse, a team of makers were preparing a batch of tables which were to be shipped to a restaurant in Switzerland. Saxon explained that the stain used on the wooden table tops was made from crushed hazelnuts shells.
In the Metro Retro showroom, Drew Pritchard was delighted to find that he and Saxon had very similar taste. "This is almost perfect. I absolutely adore it." He proceeded to buy a set of wrought iron shelves, a free standing orchard ladder, an industrial aircraft chest of drawers and two pairs of aluminium boot lasts.
Metro Retro Ltd will be exhibiting, as usual, at the next Midcentury Modern Show along with many others selling iconic design from the 20th and 21st century at Goldfinger's Haggerston School in East London this Sunday, open from 10am-4pm.
Also on the agenda is a trip to Fawley Hill, Henley-on-Thames to exhibit at Salvo Fair, which will be held on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June with Trade Day on Friday 26th June.
Happy 20th Birthday Metro Retro Ltd!
