Hargreaves Reclaimed Flooring based in Falkirk, Scotland with an office in Kent, specialise in all types of reclaimed flooring and stock a range of architectural salvage including radiators, baths, basins, lighting, ironwork and garden ornament.

Recent additions to the Hargreaves salvage reserve were some simple mahogany pews from a church in Glasgow. Neale Hargreaves said 'Reclaimed pews have become a little bit of a hard sell. Our Mark Hargreaves suggested breaking the pews down and having a closer look at the type of wood used to make the pews.'

'As you can see in the photo, the pew seat has been lightly sanded to reveal, iroko, an African hardwood. Iroko is a relative of teak, with the same properties; resilient to water, totally stable and tougher than tough.'

'We now have 50 m2 of 320mm wide iroko board, which could be tongue and grooved, and is 30mm thick. This would make for an extremely impressive floor.'

'The width of plank is unheard of and not available now. The boards are a fabulous 3700mm long.'

'If you are looking for an exceptional floor and have 50m2 to cover, look no further. Interested clients should call Mark on 01324 832200 to discuss orders and delivery.'

Neale explained that they did not have any plans for the left over parts of the pews but that the seat backs and would be excellent material for boat builders or repairers.
