Sissinghurst Castle
Vita Sackville-West, the poet and writer, began the transforming Sissinghurst Castle and garden in the 1930s with her diplomat and author husband, Harold Nicolson. Look out for the bench designed by Edwin Lutyens. Also see the remains of an Elizabethan wall to one side of the Moat Walk.
The National Trust took over the whole of Sissinghurst, its garden, farm and buildings, in 1967.
