200 Year Old Original Oak Frame from Half Timbered Cottage

£ 10,000

Quantity in stock: 1

A unique opportunity to acquire a near complete 200 year old Oak Frame of a half timbered Farmhouse dating back to 1816. Package includes front and rear Wall Timbers, Roof Plate, All Principal Roof Timbers ( 'A Frames', Joists, Bressumers etc) original Doors, Window Frames and a small Inglenook fireplace. Approximately 60% of the infill material (Daub, Knapped Flint and heavy Stone Blocks) are bagged up and included. There are also a collection of several old ecclesiastical footing stones which conceal sculpted detailing believed to be late 15th century, these stones were found in the foundations of the original building.
The building was professionally dismantled last summer (2023) and each timber was numbered according to an architectural plan and the frame was then dry stored. The architectural plan along with over 100 detailed photos (included in the sale) should enable easy reassembly of the building in its original form. Alternatively it could be part reconstructed or used in conjunction with a more modern or contemporary structure.
The original building measured 30m long x 6m wide x 10m tall and was probably built as a small farmhouse (one and a half storey) with ceiling beams, central hearth (inglenook) and a first floor into the eves. The dimensions would make a small 3/4 bedroomed house or a good size cottage. Alternatively it could easily be re-modelled as a large ground floor Workspace / Garage (entry at either gable end)with living accommodation above.
The frame and ancillary building materials are currently dry stored in Normandy France (approximately 2 hrs from Dieppe (Newhaven) Caen (Portsmouth). The frame and all the materials have previously been moved successfully as one load on a standard Low Loader with a Hiab.
