Victorian Iron Gas Lantern
Sold
A large antique Victorian wrought iron gas lantern with bullseye stained glass glazing panels (one hairline crack in one panel-see closeup). English, 19th century c1880.
Complete and in excellent condition.
Ready to go; this has been meticulously cleaned and rubbed up ( plus 2 full coat clear "museum" wax) retaining the original black paint which has never been recoated ( a very different formulation to a modern oil paint ). Rewired with a new patinated brass ES lampholder and new patinated brass tube to hold the lampholder firmly so a globe bulb is positioned centrally (not hung on a loose flex).
N.B. The wooden ceiling pattress has a brass fitting/ spigot screwed on the underside (covered by a loose cast iron canopy) to which the top of the main stem fitting screws onto securely - i can explain if needs be but it's all there, no parts needed!
