Theft Alert: Penge, Sydenham and Chislehurst horse troughs

Granite horse or cattle water trough, taken from Green Lane, in Penge, south-east London, around 18th September, 2019.

Sited on Green Lane since 1917, inscribed Metropolitan Drinking Fountain & Cattle Trough Association and ‘Be kind and merciful to all animals. In memory of David Benjamin, 1815-1893’.

One of three troughs funded by David Benjamin's memorial legacy.

Much loved and tended trough which was beautifully planted and regularly watered by locals. Part of Penge's heritage, the loss has caused a lot of upset. It is a memorial. We want it back.

Around the same time the Bell Green, Sydenham (Lewisham Council) and Chislehurst (Bromley Council) troughs have been taken [photos added 26sep19tk]
